A Beauty Secret

by Augusta P. Lemarre

Angelo, an artist I met at a café in Italy, is not the first person who commented on my smooth skin and glowing complexion. Carlos, the brilliant film director who cast me as an extra in his movie, “Lust, Deception and Computer Disks”, which he was filming in Switzerland, Greece and Beirut, said he would have given me a major role had the script included a character my age. He too could not help noticing my “lovely, radiant face”, which he said reminded him of the Virgin Mary in Renaissance paintings.

I will now let you in on my secret. Whether it will work for you, I cannot say. But in my case it’s been a lifesaver. Please don’t think anyone is paying me to say this!! I would never stoop so low. Besides, journalists are not permitted to accept bribes for endorsing products.

It is kindness and consideration alone that motivate me to impart this information. My father has often told me I have a “heart of gold” and I admit that I cannot bear to see people suffering. When we were in Egypt, I cried in my hotel room for several hours after seeing little children searching through mounds of garbage!

Here in Canada we do not have to pick through garbage but many people do suffer from bad skin. And I too was horrified, one morning on July 12th of last year, to wake up to the sight of an unsightly red spot right on my chin! I couldn’t even leave the house. My mother immediately phoned her good friend in Toronto, Dr. Tamara Flint, a leading dermatologist in her field, and because she is a close friend of the family, she agreed to give me an emergency appointment on the very same day. My mother drove me down to Toronto immediately.

Tamara prescribed an over-the-counter soap which has saved my life. I would not go anywhere without it. It is the first thing I pack when I travel with my parents to distant parts of the globe. One would not want to wake up with a horrific spot in London, for example, especially if one has tickets to a play, followed by a party to which Ralph Fiennes has been invited.

Anyhow, once or twice a day I wash my face with this magic soap, and as long as I don’t miss a single day I have nothing to worry about. At first, the soap made my skin a bit stretchy but that was only for a day or two. My skin adjusted.

I don’t know whether this soap is available where you live. It’s called Tersaseptic. I know, it’s not a very glamorous name. The marketing team there could definitely work on a catchier name. But the important thing is – it works. Or at least it worked for me. If it doesn’t work for you, I am very sorry. But at least I’ve tried to help you out.

Tamara gave me two other tips. “Never touch your face with your hands,” she said. This was a little hard to remember at first, but I trained myself. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Secondly, she advised me not to slobber creams on my face. A tiny drop of some hypo-allergenic cream if your skin is very, very dry is all that she recommends.

Thank you, Dr. Tamara Flint.
